climbers die on McKinley
Saturday, June 13, 2009
Thursday two experienced climbers died on Mt. McKinley, Alaska. A very sobering day and a reminder of the ever present danger involved in pushing the limits of human capability.
Training: Yesterday I ran 5 miles in the rain. I felt as though I was in God's symphony and all creation was playing it's heart out; everyone was present, the wind section, thunder was on percussion, rain on strings, and there was even a spectacular light[ening] show. What a awesome world we live in.
Ps. God is the archetypical composer with serious chops.

training
Thursday, June 11, 2009
My body has felt beat down this week. It has been challenging to go from football bulk to lean, mean, mountain climbing machine. The distance running has especially taken a toll. Lets face it, a lean 210 still isn't exactly a distance body.
On days like today I draw inspiration from guys like David Goggins. Dude runs 135 miles races in 120 degree dessert heat. To top it all off, he recently found out he has a hole in is heart, leaving him to run on about 3/4 a heart. Amazing. Check out his site.

Elbrus
Tuesday, June 9, 2009
I will be climbing Mount Elbrus which is in south Russia, late August/the first part of September 2009. I have been training since the beginning of May, and will post updates on all things Elbrus in the coming weeks; hopefully including video of the culmination, the summit attempt on August 28.
In coming weeks I will also let you know how you can partner with me in fund-raising for a worthy cause.
Lots of love,
Zach
